Photography is a central component of Parks in Focus – we use digital cameras as a means to carry out our mission of connecting youth to nature.
- Photography requires trip participants to stop and make an immediate connection to the world around them
- Photography builds awareness of their surroundings
- Photography provides an interpretive lens through which youth become interested in learning about the environment
- Photography creates a safety net for exploration of an environment that was previously unknown and scary
- Photography exposes youth to the joy of sharing – their art, their stories, what they’ve learned with other youth and interested adults
- Photography gets youth outdoors, and they all get to take something home!
The added bonus is that our kids take really, really great photographs. Take a peek at our Flickr gallery of photos, mostly featuring images taken by our middle-school participants.
Parks in Focus participant photos have been exhibited at sites across the country and can currently be seen at the headquarters building of Grand Canyon National Park.
