Parks in Focus has touched many young lives, but there is much more to do. Please join us.
Many of our most underserved kids never have a chance to leave their communities. They often lack opportunities to explore and play in nature, experiences that can help children develop the skills and creativity they need to do well in school, get along with others and avoid health problems. Our success has shown us, and research confirms, that connecting and re-connecting youth with nature is vital to early childhood development.
Your gift will help us provide a proven program to children who need it most. Together, we will help many youth take the first step toward building a lasting relationship with the natural world.
Q: How many kids are out there?
A: Nearly 5 million. We partner with local Boys & Girls clubs to help us choose trip participants. With almost 5,000 clubs and locations in all 50 states, the Boys & Girls club organizations assist some 4.8 million youngsters.
Q: What's to see and discover?
A: 84 million acres of natural beauty. There are nearly 400 national parks covering more than 84 million acres. We seek to share this national heritage. In addition, Parks in Focus trips visit wildlife refuges and other public lands.
Q: How much do the trips cost?
A: Approximately $10,000 per trip.
Q: What would I be contributing to?
A: Thousands of photographs that capture brilliant red rock, the sun skimming the surface of the water, and the never-ending sky. Many, many pairs of soggy shoes and socks from the many slips and then “oh wells” into the creek. Hundreds of trees identified, birds recognized by their calls alone, and animals viewed up-close. Group breakfasts, lunches, and dinners prepared, eaten, and cleaned-up after days of challenge hikes, kayaking, or simply playing in the forest. Minds opened to the adventure and wonder of the world around them.
